A group of exceptional sculptures by the artist, chosen after a painstaking scientific research lasting six years, will be at the center of an incomparable exhibit. These works, which were the object of in-depth study by specialists, will give the public a unique opportunity to learn more about a still relatively unfamiliar chapter in the artistic life of the great Modigliani. Mart, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, was established in 1987 as an autonomous institution of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Today it has three exhibition sites: the main museum in Rovereto, the Depero Gallery of Futurist Art in Rovereto that was reopened to the public in January 2009, and the Renaissance Palazzo delle Albere in Trento. The Mart museum designed by Canton Ticino architect Mario Botta and Rovereto-native civil engineer Giulio Andreolli was inaugurated in December 2002. Mart is one of Italy's most important museums of modern and contemporary art. Each year, more than 200,000 people visit its permanent collection of over 12,000 works displayed in rotation according to specific themes and collections. It produced 130 exhibits in the six and a half years since its inauguration. Besides its exhibitions, Mart also organizes several events designed to attract aficionados, tourists, residents, and scholars: film reviews, concerts, conference cycles, meetings with artists and critics, and debates. It also organizes study seminars and specialized publications prepared by study centers: 20th Century Archives and the Mart Library that contain, respectively, 80,000 documents (including correspondence, writings, designers, photographs and press clips) and 60,000 books.
