The Department of Culture for the city of Milan presents "Salvador Dalì. Il sogno si avvicina [Salvador Dalì The Dream Approaches"], an exhibit organized by Vincenzo Trione in Palazzo Reale from Sept. 22, 2010 to Jan. 30, 2011. This exhibit, which was made possible through the extraordinary partnership with the Foundation of Figueres, will receive many important works on loan from national and international museums such as the Gala-Salvador Dalì Foundation, the Dalì Museum of St. Petersburg, Florida, the Boijmans Museum of Rotterdam, the Animation Research Library of the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice, Mart of Rovereto, and the Vatican Museums.
Promoted by the Cultural Department of the city of Milan and produced by Palazzo Reale with 24 ORE Cultura - 24 ORE Group, it presents over 50 works that reveal the genius of Salvador Dalì and explore the relationship between landscapes, dreams, and desires. The Spanish artist returns to Milan after a one-man show held in October 1954 at Palazzo Reale in the Caryatids Room, which inspired Dalì for his home in Figueres, now the site of the Gala Salvador Dalì Foundation. The exhibit setup was designed by architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca, a friend and partner of the Salvador Dalí Foundation.
For the first time, the Mae West room will be created for the exhibit as Dalí himself envisioned it. "Salvador Dalì The Dream Approaches" has an exceptional scientific committee with eminent scholars of international stature: Montse Aguer, the Director of Center for Dalian Studies; Hank Hines, Director of the Dalì Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida; Antonio Paolucci, Director of the Vatican Museums; Francisco Calvo Serraller, an eminent scholar of Spanish modern art; and Robert Storr, a US curator, critic, and dean of the Yale School of Art.
